Aims & Objectives of the Center

The overall aim of the Center is to create a Center of Excellence with state of art research facilities and study in the area of Environmental Science and Engineering. In this regard the followings shall be the objectives of the Center:

a) To promote and provide facilities for

• Post graduate diploma and certificate programs for the professionals
• Advanced studies and research facilities for students, teachers and professionals
• Developing local environmental manpower and expertise in order to enhance the economic growth of the country without damaging the quality of the environment
• Mainstreaming environmental dimension within the processes of planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance of development projects
• Developing capacity for environmental research in order to support environmentally sound development programs in the country
• Training and education to technologist, managers, decision makers, academician and other concerned officials in sound management approaches, parallel to technological and least cost solutions to the environmental problems
• Providing specific project oriented training to professionals of industries and other development agencies within the energy sector
• Offering consultation services to development agencies and partners in matters of environmental relevance
• Conducting research in areas of global and national environmental problems
• Developing an environmental management information system (EMIS) within the center to facilitate collection and dissemination of information and training materials to institutions that train environmental professionals

b) To provide necessary forum for professional engineers and policy & decision makers to exchange ideas in the field of environmental science and engineering both at home and abroad

c) To help in formulating the codes of practices for cleaner and greener environment:

• Bangladesh Standards for environmental quality (e.g. air quality, water quality, wastewater quality, noise quality, sediment quality and etc.)
• Bangladesh Standard Code of Practice for plumbing system for residential commercial and industrial building
• Bangladesh Standard Code of Practice for water and wastewater treatment plant design, and
• Bangladesh Standard Code of Practice for Environmental Impact assessment

Mission of the Center

The Center for Environmental Science and Engineering Research (CESER) will be established to provide world class research facilities to achieve “Center of Excellence”. It would be guided by an Advisory Committee of leading environmental practitioners and is committed to conduct research at advanced level. The Center is expected to create state-of-the-art research facilities covering all aspect of Environmental Science and Engineering topics in the context to Global Environmental Challenges. The Center is also committed to develop curriculum, code, standard, guideline and regulation for a safer and cleaner environment. The center will also be involved in the public awareness building program in relation to Environmental issues subjected to national and international interest.
