Undergraduate Study Details

The university received a significant number of Undergraduate students (B.Sc) at various degree awarding departments every year. The details of admission for the Undergraduate program are described below:

Student Admission, Equivalence and Admission on Transfer:

  • The four academic years of study for the degree of B. Sc. Engineering and BURP shall be designated as Level-1 class, Level-2 class, Level-3 class and Level-4 class in succeeding higher Levels of study. The five academic years of study for the degree of B. Arch shall be designated as Level-1 class, Level-2 class, Level-3 class, Level-4, and Level-5 class in succeeding higher Levels of study. Students shall be admitted into the Level-1 class.
  • An Admission Committee shall be formed in each academic session by the Academic Council for admission into Level-1 B. Sc. Engineering, BURP and B. Arch class, vide Article 42 of the University Act.
  • According to Article 42(2) of this University Act, candidates for admission into the Level-1 class must have passed the H.S.C. Examination from a Higher Secondary Education Board in Bangladesh (after 12 years of schooling) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as his/her subjects of Examination or any examination in Higher Secondary Level of examination recognised as Equivalent thereto, and must also fulfill all other requirements as may be prescribed by the Admission Committee.
  • As specified in Article 42(1) of this University Act, the rules and conditions for admission into various courses of studies of Departments shall be framed by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the Admission Committee.
  • All candidates for admission into the courses of B. Sc. Engineering, BURP and B. Arch. must be the citizens of Bangladesh unless the candidate is against the seats which are reserved for foreign students. Candidates for all seats, except the reserved ones, if any, shall be selected on the basis of merit. The rules for admission into the reserved seats (for foreign students & tribal), if any, shall be framed by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the Admission Committee.
  • No candidate shall be admitted in the Level-1 class after the beginning of the corresponding session, i.e., when the classes start.
  • List of newly admitted students shall be notified in the University notice Board as well as in the University Website before commencement of the classes.
  • If any newly admitted student fails to register the courses and to attend the classes within the first two weeks time after the start of classes, he/she will not be allowed to attend his/her classes at Level-1 course(s) but his/her admission into the Level-1 of the respective academic session will remain valid up to six weeks.
  • If any student fails to report within the first six weeks after the start of classes, his/her admission shall be canceled.

Preamble

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) organize a combined admission test for students admission in the various departments offering the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in respective Engineering field of study, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (BURP) and Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) degrees under different faculties on Sunday 03 March 2024 at 10:00 am for the academic year 2023-2024 for the prescribed seats as mentioned in Section 2 in three centers (CUET, KUET and RUET) with the same question paper.

  • The examination center will be decided according to the grade points and marks obtained by the candidate in the four subjects, namely Mathematics, Science, Chemistry and English in Higher Secondary or equivalent examination and the candidate's preference.
  • The university and the department for admission will be determined according to the merit rank obtained in the admission test by the candidate and his/her preference.
  • Application for admission, admission procedure regarding university and department selection order of the candidates who have qualified the admission test will be done online ( https://admissionckruet.ac.bd )

Number of seats for admission in 4 (four) year B.Sc. in Engineering and BURP (Group “Ka”) and 5 (Five) Year B. Arch (Group “Kha”) under the three Universities (CUET, KUET & RUET) is as follows:

* In addition to the total no. of seats of 920 there are 11 (eleven) reserved seats among which 10 (ten) are allocated for the tribal people of Chittagong Hill Tracts and other districts and 01 (one) is allocated for Rakhain community.

Qualifications for Participation in the Admission Test

  • Candidate must be a citizen of Bangladesh.
  • The candidate must have passed the S.S.C. or equivalent examination from any Secondary & Higher Secondary Education Board/Madrasa Education Board/Technical Education Board of Bangladesh in the year 2020 or 2021 with minimum GPA of 4.00 or equivalent grade.
  • Candidate must have passed Higher Secondary/Alim/equivalent examination held in 2023 from any Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education/Madrasa Education Board/Board of Technical Education in Bangladesh or GCE 'A' level on or after November 2022. Candidates should have minimum total grade points of 14.00 in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and a minimum grade point of 3.50 in English; however, the candidate must have minimum total grade points of 18.00 in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English. Besides, for admission in the Biomedical Engineering Department, the concerned candidate must obtain at least grade point 4.00 in Biology in Higher Secondary or equivalent examination.
  • Candidates those have passed GCE 'O' level must obtained 'A' grade separately in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English to appear in the admission test examination. And in the GCE 'A' level examination, the candidate must obtain 'A' grades in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics separately. Besides, to get admission in Biomedical Engineering Department, the concerned candidate should get at least 'B' grade in Biology in GCE 'A' level examination.
  • Candidates, Bangladesh nationals, who have passed the Higher Secondary/Equivalent Examination held in 2022 from a foreign educational institution with at least 12 academic years of study must obtained at least 80% marks or equivalent grade in the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English separately. The concerned candidate must have obtained at least 70% marks in average or equivalent grade in the secondary/equivalent examination.

Minimum Qualifications for Admission

  • The merit rank of an eligible candidate will be determined on the basis of total marks obtained in the admission test only. A merit list for Engineering Departments and Urban and Regional Planning Department, and a separate merit list for Architecture Department will be published for the eligible candidates according to their merit position based on obtained total marks
  • In the case of more than one candidate obtaining the same total marks in the admission test, for Engineering Departments and Urban and Regional Planning Department, the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English in order of admission test, and that for Architecture Department, merit rank of candidates will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in Free-hand drawing, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English in order.
  • Separate merit list of eligible candidates for admission in the reserved seats will be published. However, in any individual department a maximum of 02 (two) qualified candidates will be admitted to CUET and 01 (one) each to KUET and RUET in the order of merit and preference in each category.

Grading System

Letter grade system will be applied in assessment of the performance of a student in semester examination. Numerical marking may be made in answer scripts but all final gradings to be reported to the Head of the department in prescribed form, shall be in the letter grade as outlined below:
